Sugar Higher or Lower: Why US and EU Recipes Differ
By A. Pepper, CEO of Type Click Tests ·
Sugar Higher or Lower labels the country on each card because the same logo is not the same recipe. UK Sprite and Fanta were cut after sugar taxes. US versions of those drinks often stay sweeter per 100 ml. Classic Coca-Cola is the exception — it is close in both markets.
What to watch on the card
- Drinks are grams of sugar per 100 ml. Foods are per 100 g. Compare the printed number.
- Country tags matter: United States, United Kingdom, EU, Italy.
- Ketchup, yogurt, cereal, and peanut butter drift the same way as soda.
- Zero-sugar cola is a real low card. Honey and table sugar are the ceiling.
This is a comparison game, not a lab assay. Labels change by year and SKU. The point is the US vs EU gap, not a shopping list.
